Memorial Service for Hall Set Thursday

A memorial service for faculty member Jeanne Hall, who died unexpectedly Dec. 23, 2011, will be conducted at 5 p.m. Thursday in Carnegie Cinema.

Hall, 53, was an associate professor in the Department of Film-Video and Media Studies. She joined the Penn State faculty in 1992 and taught film theory, history and criticism. She received a number of honors as a faculty member, including the College of Communications Alumni Society’s Excellence in Teaching Award.

"Jeanne, as my friend and colleague, was simply fantastic. She was so very wise, genuine, sensitive, supportive, cheerful, optimistic, creative, fun, smart, spunky and just plain wonderful," said Michelle Rodino-Colocino, an assistant professor of media studies.

The memorial service is open to all members of the Penn State community.

Prior to joining the Penn State faculty, Hall taught at the Ohio University School of Film and edited a quarterly film journal, Wide Angle. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Michigan, and a doctorate in film studies from the University of Wisconsin.

She is survived by her parents, Clark and Joyce Hall, West Bloomfield, Mich.; sisters, Kathleen (Frank) Gariepy, and Cheryl (David) Lindsay; brothers, Mark (Jodi) Hall, Thomas Hall, and James (Kristin) Hall, all of Michigan. She is also survived by Jean Stobart Hall, and her former husband, Ron Bettig.

Condolences may be shared online at the website of the Koch Funeral Home in State College.
